Letter from our Founder
After almost 15 years of arts education programming and original performances for children ages 0-6, Arts on the Horizon will be closing on December 31, 2025.
I started Arts on the Horizon with our inaugural production of Drumming with Dishes at Landmark Mall in Alexandria. I figured it would be a one-off production and it would be a way for me to explore this new genre of Theater for the Very Young that I was learning about through performances from other countries. I did not expect that we would have more than a few audience members in each show – but as word of mouth traveled, the shows started to sell out, and people loved this story of friendship and kindness told through the performances of two actors and a musician – all without words. I knew that we had created something very special and it was just the beginning.
During our tenure we created 27 world premiere productions for children ages 0-6 and their families; provided afterschool programming, summer camps, storytimes, and workshops for thousands of young people; partnered with schools, community centers, performing arts center, theater companies, universities, and nonprofit organizations across the DC metro area. Serving the young people and families in our area over the years has been one of the biggest joys of my life.
I want to thank the dedicated staff, artists, teaching artists, board members, and funders for supporting the organization over the years. Without you Arts on the Horizon would not have existed.
When I started Arts on the Horizon, I wanted to create a place where artists could feel free to collaborate and create beautiful work for our youngest audience members; where young people and their caregivers could create lasting memories together; and most importantly to bring joy to all who stepped through our doors.
Thank you for all of the memories.
All my best,
Michelle
