​National Theatre's Saturday Morning Live! Shows

The Saturday Morning Live! At the National program is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and has delighted children for years with performances designed to engage and inspire the young mind. Virtual performances by nationally known educators and artists encourage children to look outside their communities and discover a world of wonder.

The National Theatre has invited Arts on the Horizon to create three engaging shows as part of its 
Saturday Morning Live! series. See below for more information about each show!

Snapshots: Swept Away

Directed by Ryan Sellers

A blanket, a box, and a big surprise! Everyday things can become extraordinary, and small doors can lead to big places with a little imagination. Three adventurers learn to work together and get swept away by follies, friendship, and fun!

Ryan Sellers (Director, Cast Member) has been a teaching artist, actor, and director in the DC area since 2008. He has worked with Arts on the Horizon, MVCCT, and Synetic mentoring and educating youth through theater arts. He has directed for Arts on the Horizon, Synetic Theater, Synetic Teen Company, Creative Cauldron, MVCCT, and many local schools.  He has performed with several companies around the DC area, including Synetic Theater, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Constellation Theatre Company, Signature Theatre, Arts on the Horizon, Imagination Stage, Adventure Theatre, Studio Theatre, Longarce Lea, and Creative Cauldron. Ryan is a proud company member of Arts on the Horizon.

Dallas Tolentino (Performer, Cinematographer, and Editor) is so excited to bring an Arts on the Horizon piece into the digital realm. He has previously been an actor with AOTH in pieces such as Beep Beep and Outside the Lines. Other previous credits include D.C. area: The Kennedy Center: How to Catch a Star; Adventure Theatre: Frosty the Snowman; Imagination Stage: The Smartest Girl in the World; Rorschach Theatre Company: A Bid to Save the World; Constellation Theatre Company: The Master and Margarita, The Skin of our Teeth, Peter and the Starcatcher (Peter), Journey to the West. He is also a company member with Synetic Theater where he has performed in over 20 shows. Dallas and his wife, Tori Tolentino were also recently nominated for a Helen Hayes for  Outstanding Choreography for Escape from Peligro Island with Imagination Stage.

Tori Tolentino (Performer) is a director, choreographer, adaptor, and performing artist with over a decade of experience. Tori most recently returned to the States after receiving her Master’s degree in arts management and administration at the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan, Italy. Currently, Tori is developing Tolentino Visuals a film and photography business alongside her husband while simultaneously developing a consulting firm rooted in diversifying management and staff, boards, talent, and creative content of theatre organizations. Tori is honored to be part of the Swept Away team and to be back with Arts on the Horizon creating meaningful theatre during this unprecedented time. She thanks Ryan and Dallas for sharing their imaginative spirits and laughter during this process and beyond. ​

Through spring, summer, fall, and winter, come see them grow together as they build a lifelong friendship through play and laughter.

Lolita Marie Clayton (Performer) Helen Hayes recipient for Mrs. Muller in Doubt (1st Stage), 2020 nominee for Veronica in God of Carnage (Keegan Theatre), and  2019 nominee for Marian Anderson in Secrets of the Universe (The Hub Theatre). Lolita was last on stage with Olney and 1st Stage Theatres in a repertory production of The Royale. Other recent credits include Native Son (Mosaic Theater Company), Flood City,  Brownsville Song, and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf (Theater Alliance), The Skin of Our Teeth (Constellation Theatre Company), Sophocles’ Electra (4615 Theatre Company), Well (1st Stage Theatre), An American Daughter (Keegan Theatre), Leto Legend (The Hub Theatre), The Hampton Years and Something You Did (Theater J), Blood Wedding (Constellation Theatre Company), and The Constellation (Active Cultures Theatre), and Getting Out (Journeymen Theater Ensemble). Independent film and television credits include Too Saved and Nocturnal Agony (Nubia Filmworks), and Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry (I.D. Investigation Discovery).

Natalie Graves Tucker​ (Performer) is an actor, voiceover artist, communications professional and hustler. She is currently the Executive Director for Artomatic, Social Media Manager for Theater Alliance and Founder of Blackstage DC, an online media outlet that highlights multicultural artists in the DMV. As an actor, Natalie has appeared on Washington DC-area stages such as Studio Theatre, Theater Alliance, African Continuum Theatre, Folger Theatre and 1st Stage. She can be seen in training videos for AARP, AETNA and the US Postal Service plus commercials for Pillpack, NFL Shop, and America’s Best Eyewear.

Tuyet Thi Pham (Director) is thrilled to be collaborating with AOTH again after portraying Blossom in their production of Blossom’s Rainbow. Tuyet has also been seen in over 35 productions in the Baltimore-Washington DC area that include roles at Centerstage, Everyman Theatre, Bodywise Dance Company, Constellation Theatre Company, RepStage, Roundhouse Theatre, Imagination Stage, Signature Theatre, The HUB Theatre, The Inkwell, Ford’s Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, and The Capital Fringe Festival. She has also worked with Perseverance Theatre in Alaska, The Nebraska Shakespeare Festival, and was an Allen Lee Hugh Artistic Fellow and member of Arena Stage’s famed Living Stage Theatre Company. Tuyet is grateful for all the love and support from her friends and family.
Katie Buchwell (Stage Manager) is excited to work with Arts on the Horizon and get back to theater, although missing the in person performances. Katie received her BFA in Theater Production Design/Technology with an emphasis in Stage Management from the University of Arizona. Last year before the pandemic, she worked on Suddenly Last Summer (SM) with Avant Bard. Previously she worked on Amazing Grace (ASM/Swing SM) with the Museum of the Bible, and with Spooky Action Theater on shows such as The River (SM), The Man Who (SM), The Lathe of Heaven (SM), The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs (SM), and Among the Dead (SM).

Snapshots: The Whirligig

Come along and witness the exciting journey of the Whirligig! You may know them as "helicopter seeds;" those small spinning buds that fall from trees. Join us as we explore the life of this awesomely aerodynamic maple seed as it experiences the transformative cycles of nature. Our journey takes us from tree tops, to water fountains, to birds' nests, and more through the use of props, shadow puppets, and dance to show you just how whimsically wonderful the Whirligig can be!

Maria Simpkins (Performer) is a multidisciplinary artist with specialties in movement based social justice works.  She defines herself and work as creativist; spaces for positive change. Her most recent works include: Boiling Point with Convergence Theatre, Joy: Maria, and The Decameron with Synetic Theater. Regional credits: Snow Queen, Synetic Theater; Winters Tale, The Wheel; Cat In The Hat, Adventure Theater. Non Regional Credits: For Colored Girls, touring; The Witch of Edmonton, The Underground; Speak Up Speak Out, Detroit Actor's Theater; In The Blood, Young Fenix.

Eirin Stevenson (Performer) Arts on the Horizon debut! Fairy Field Trips (Witch of the South/ Adventure Theatre MTC), Crowns (Jeannette/ Creative Cauldron), The Velveteen Rabbit (Child/ Adventure Theatre MTC), Forest Treás (Steph/ Pointless Theatre), Rite of Spring (Ensemble/ Pointless Theatre), Visions of Love (Ensemble/ Pointless Theatre), Anon(ymous) ( Anon/ Theatre Prometheus), Bully (Tanisha/The Interrobang Theatre Company). Raven Lorraine (Director) is a director, an actor, and an activist currently residing in the Washington DC area. A proud member of Actor's Equity Association, she has performed all across the country with professional companies such as Virginia Repertory Theatre, Synetic Theatre, Hampstead Stage Company, The National Theatre for Children, and The John F. Kennedy Center's Theatre for Young Audiences. Raven has also worked as a teaching artist and children's theatre director with Educational Theatre company, Cadence Theatre Company, and at Henrico High School Center for the Arts. She is an active Company Member with Only Make Believe DC and Synetic Theatre and serves as a Board Member and Facilitator with The Conciliation Project whose mission is "to promote, through active and challenging dramatic work, open and honest dialogue about racism and oppression in America in order to repair its damaging legacy."
Genevieve Dornemann (Stage Manager) is a stage manager in the DC Metro Area. She is happy to be returning to Arts on the Horizon for Snapshots: The Whirligig after working on Drumming with Dishes last spring. Other previous stage management credits include productions at Imagination Stage, Synetic Theater, and Theater Prometheus. Genevieve is excited to be involved in bringing creative programming to young audiences at home!
